Each mile is dedicated to an individual NJ Hero and their Family, and the Run Team will stop at each Hero Marker (each mile) to Honor and Remember to waiting Family Members, Friends, and Comrades with the goal of creating a 225+ Mile Memorial Trail through the State of New Jersey.
A Litany of Remembrance
In the rising of the sun and in its going down, We remember them. In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, We remember them. In the opening of buds and in the rebirth of spring, We remember them. In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer, We remember them. In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn, We remember them. In the beginning of the year and when it ends, We remember them. When we are weary and in need of strength, We remember them. When we are lost and sick at heart, We remember them. When we have joys we yearn to share, We remember them. So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are now a part of us, As we remember them. |

In an apolitical reflection of remembrance, a team of military members from Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst and other locations across the US will come together to embark on a 225+ mile journey to honor every New Jersey service member who died during the period of the Global War on Terror (GWOT). Each mile is dedicated to an individual NJ Hero and their family, and the run team will stop at each Hero Marker (each mile) to make a presentation to waiting family members, friends, and comrades with the goal of creating a 225+ mile Memorial Trail through New Jersey. What is a Hero Marker?
Each mile of the Run is dedicated to one of our NJ Fallen and the endpoint of that mile is marked by a distinctive Hero Marker which is placed in a prominent position and also painted on the road thus acting as the "gathering point" for that Hero's Family, Friends and comrades. Our Run Team will stop and make a presentation at every Hero Marker throughout the 4 days of the Run. Full details, listings and maps will be published here in the spring of 2025... Where is the NJ Gold Star Family Monument?
In early 2011 the NJ Run For The Fallen presented a plan to the Trustees of the NJ Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation to establish a Gold Star Family Monument. Following a series of meetings in 2013 the Trustees of the NJ Run For The Fallen formed a committee to design, fund and build a monument to honor and remember the sacrifices of those families who have lost a loved one in defense of our Nation. The monument to be located on the grounds of the NJ Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Holmdel, NJ. The Monument was Dedicated on September, 2015. |
