PV2 Tysheena Lynette James
Hometown: Jersey City, NJ.
Age: 21 years old.
Died: June 2, 2016.
Unit:  3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX.

 Tysheena Lynette James of Jersey City, New Jersey died suddenly on June 2, 2016 while on a Military Training Exercise.  

Fort Hood spokesman Tyler Broadway said that 12 Fort Hood soldiers were on Thursday's convoy training exercise on a dirt road parallel to a paved road that the base had closed because of the risk of flooding. A rush of water overturned the 2½-ton Light Medium Tactical Vehicle.

Two bodies were found in the vehicle and three others were found downstream from it hours later. The last four missing soldiers were found dead downstream Friday, said Maj. Gen. John Uberti, deputy Fort Hood commander.

During her service PVT 2 James was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and Army Service Ribbon. She was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Calvary Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Beloved Daughter of James and Essie. Cherished Sister of Rashee, Marcus, Juanita, Celeste, Corinthia and Ayania. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and many other loving Relatives and Friends.

Funeral service Saturday June 11, 2016 at 10 A.M. Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church 597 Bergen Avenue Jersey City, N.J. Viewing Saturday 9-10 A.M. prior to the service at the church. Interment: Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, 

Pvt. Tysheena Lynette James, 21, was killed on June 2 when a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle overturned at Owl Creek. She entered active military service in November, according a statement released by the U.S. Army.  

​During her service, James was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.

"This is a tragedy affecting not only Jersey City, but all of the communities who have lost a soldier as a result of this accident at Fort Hood," Mayor Steve Fulop said in a statement. "Our deepest condolences go to the family and loved ones of Pvt. James."

 PV2 Tysheena James was posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
