Lance Cpl. Curtis A. Christensen Jr.
Hometown: Collingswood, New Jersey, U.S. Age: 29 years old Died: January 11, 2008 in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Unit: Marines, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C Birth: Oct. 6, 1978, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA Curtis was born at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital and attended Delran High School in New Jersey but was currently a resident of Collingswood, New Jersey. On his 28th birthday, he told his family of his plans to join the Marines and dedicated himself to making it work. Six months before boot camp, he stopped smoking, drinking, ran every day and joined the gym. Curtis never did anything half way and his dedication paid off. Upon graduation from boot camp, he was presented an award for earning the highest marks in physical training – not bad for someone who was the "grandpa" of the group. When he joined the Marines on October 16, 2006, he was trained as a machine gunner and was promoted to lance corporal on December 1, 2007. But his real dream was the hope of joining a special operations team similar to the Navy SEALS. Curtis was an avid photographer and outdoors-man – remembered as fun-loving and caring. Beloved husband of Olga of Washington DC son of Mary Knight (nee Meeteer) and her husband David of Chatsworth NJ.
Brother to Michael Christensen, step brother to Hope Knight of Collingswood NJ and Leslie Knight of Marlton NJ. Nephew to Dr. Frank Meeteer of Haddonfield NJ. Curtis was an avid outdoors-man and hiked over 1200 miles in one trip on the Appalachian Trail. He did the sound and lighting for local rock bands. Curtis enjoyed participating in medieval reenactments, reading, and photography. |

Executive Order #94 Governor Jon S. Corzine WHEREAS, United States Marine Lance Corporal Curtis A. Christensen, Jr., was born at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was a resident of Collingswood, New Jersey; and WHEREAS, Corporal Christensen was an avid photographer and outdoors-man; and WHEREAS, Corporal Christensen enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and WHEREAS, Corporal Christensen was a dedicated soldier as well as a loving husband, son, brother, and friend, whose memory lives in the hearts of his family and fellow soldiers; and WHEREAS, Corporal Christensen was killed in Iraq, during a time of war while serving as a member of the United States Marine Corp; and WHEREAS, Corporal Christensen's patriotism and dedicated service to his country and his fellow soldiers make it appropriate and fitting for the State of New Jersey to remember him and his family, to mark his passing, and to honor his memory; NOW, THEREFORE, I, JON S. CORZINE, Governor of the State of New Jersey, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and by the Statutes of this State, do hereby ORDER and DIRECT:
