Sgt Richard A. Cummings Jr.
Hometown: Deal, NJ
Age: 24 years old.
Died: July 8, 2012.
Unit: Marine Tactical Group, MACG-48, Great Lakes, IL


Birth: 1988, Deal, Monmouth County, New Jersey, USA

Sgt. Richard A. Cummings, Jr. USMC, 24, passed away on July 8 in Yuma, Arizona. Richard was a lifelong resident of Deal.

Richard was a graduate of Deal Elementary School and St. Rose High School. He followed his call to serve his country by joining the Marine Corps the summer he graduated high school.

He served at the 4th MLG in Red Bank as a diesel mechanic with the 6th Motor Transport Battalion for 5 years. His most recent assignment was at the Marine Tactical Group, MACG-48, Great Lakes, Illinois. He was on assignment at Marine Air Base, Yuma, Arizona when he passed away. Richard also served in Iraq supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manasquan. He was also a member of VFW post 2226, and a Life Scout in Troop 70.

Richard was predeceased by his grandparents, Charles and Helen Cummings, and Becky Corriea. He is survived by his grandfather, Toddy Correia, Manasquan; his parents, Richard Sr., and Odette Cummings, Deal; his sister and brother in law and niece, Stefanie, Aaron, and Rebecca Green, Ocean Twp.; his sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Jim Bonney, Brownsville, VT; his uncle and aunt, Elliott and Marybeth Correia and cousins Todd and Lt. Mark Correia, USN, Point Pleasant; his uncle and aunt Dennis and Sheri Cummings, and his cousin Gregory Cummings, Searsport, Maine; and his cousin and her family, Amanda, Toby, Mia, and Izzy Wood, Austin, Texas, and many friends both in and out the Marine Corps. Richard will always be remembered as a son, brother, a good friend and a Marine.

Burial will follow at Brig Gen Wm. C. Doyle Mem. Cemetery, 350 Provenceline Rd. Wrightstown, NJ.
