PVT. Michael Ernest Fremer
Hometown: Pine Beach, NJ, U.S. Age: 19 years old Died: February 13, 2008. Unit: 88th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Fort Polk, La. Birth: Sep. 30, 1989, Queens, Queens County, New York, USA Michael was a native of Brooklyn, New York, and moved to New Jersey, living for a few years in Huguenot before settling in Pine Beach. A young man who had numerous friends, a huge love to the New York Mets professional baseball team, and pizza. He enjoyed taking weekend trips to Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia to visit historical places. He was a black-belt in tae kwon do and his father shared a joy in racing slot cars. He died Wednesday, February 13, of injuries he sustained during a training accident at Fort Polk, La. Wanting to add some structure and discipline to his life, he joined the United States Army in April of 2007 after obtaining his GED. He received basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina before transferring to Fort Polk Louisiana in October 2007 where he served as a vehicle mechanic with the 88th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. He wanted to become a mechanic or police officer some day. Although his future plans were still up in the air, he felt he now had some direction and stability in his life. He is survived by his mother Jamesetta Janssen and husband Roy of Pine Beach, New Jersey, father Edward Fremer of Staten Island, New York, brother Steven Merante of Las Vegas, Nevada, stepbrothers Roy Jr., David, and Michael, and stepsister Tami Janssen. Paternal grandparents Lydia and Ernie and Grandma Helen Janssen. Also surviving his cousin Ann Marie, all other cousins, nieces, nephews, Aunt Patie and all other aunts and uncles.
