PFC Steven Gonzalez
Hometown: Vineland, New Jersey, U.S. Age: 23 years old. Died: April 10, 2023. Unit: Army - Blackhawk Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th U.S. Cavalry Regiment, Fort Cavazos, Texas. Born: September 27th, 1999. Died: Steven Gonzalez passed on April 10, 2023 in the city of Killeen Texas at the age of 23. Steven was born on September 27, 1999 in Vineland, NJ at Newcomb Hospital. He graduated from Vineland High school in June of 2019, and then married his high school sweetheart, Ayanna Diaz on January 22, 2020. They share 2 boys, Elias CJ and Josiah Rafael Gonzalez. Steven was a proud soldier of the US Army, where he had several deployments to Indiana, Poland and Lithuania. During his deployments, he received honors for Gunnery and also a Lithuanian Medal for his Joint Forces Rotation. He was a loving Son, Brother, Husband and Father who valued his family and was so proud of the life he shared with them. Steven enjoyed fishing, riding dirt bikes, camping, gaming, weight lifting, watching movies, board games and bowling. He really loved being an infantry man and was very competitive. He loved to reminisce about childhood memories with his family at family gatherings. Steven is survived by his maternal grandmother, Linda Cataldi (Nonna), paternal grandmother, Loujean Ferrell. His mother and stepfather, Tiffany and Larry Harold, mother-in-law, Melissa Hickman. His wife, Ayanna Diaz Gonzalez, and by his 2 sons, Elias CJ and Josiah Rafael Gonzalez. His siblings, Alexa Gonzalez, Anastasia Gonzalez, Arianna Harold, Tyreese Harold, Kwame Anderson, Natalya Gonzalez, Tatianna Gonzalez and by his Father, Steve Gonzalez. Steven is also survived by his niece, Jainah, his nephews and by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfathers; CJ Groover and Joe Williams “Pops” and by his brother Larry Jr. The funeral service was held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 22nd at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. Family and friends gathered from 10:00-11:00 am at the funeral home. Steven was laid to rest with military honors at Siloam Cemetery, Vineland, following the funeral service. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.wbfuneralhome.com PFC Gonzalez served with great pride as an Army Infantryman (11B). This is an incredibly important role in the U.S. Army and is responsible for defending our nation through expertise in combat arms. During his time in 2nd Battalion 7th U.S. Cavalry Regiment, PFC Gonzalez deployed to camp Atterbury, Indiana in support of welcoming Afghan refugees to the United States. He participated in a National Training Center Rotation in Fort Irwin, California. Most recently, he deployed to Europe in support of Operation Assure, Deter, And Reinforce to bolster our NATO allies.
