Birth: November 20, 1949, Perth Amboy, NJ

Lieutenant Colonel Francis S. Strzelec, 57, of Hillsborough, NJ, passed away on April 13, 2007, at Fort Meade, MD, while on active duty for the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; son, Daniel and his wife Sarah; daughter, Alicia; sister, Helen and her husband Michael Huzar; nephews, Nicholas and Jason; and nieces, Caroline and Erin. He is also mourned by brother-in-law, John Waters and his wife, Susan; sister-in-law, Carol Waters; father-in-law, William Waters and mother-in-law, Shirley; uncle, Robert Adsit and Mario Vitale; and aunts, Sister Francine Waters and Mary Webster.

Francis, the son of Stanley and Cecilia Strzelec, was born on Nov. 20, 1949, in Perth Amboy. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church in Perth Amboy as a child and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1967. He received a bachelor of chemical engineering from the University of Dayton in 1971. Francis and Kathleen were married in 1972 in Syracuse, NY. He received his MBA from Rutgers University in Newark in 1976 and later completed his course work for a master's of environmental science at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Francis spent his childhood hunting and fishing in New Jersey. As an adult, he loved the Adirondacks and the Lake Champlain islands region in Vermont. He was an avid bass fisherman and spent most weekends at his lake house in Alburgh, VT. Before his mobilization, Francis was employed by US Metals, CP Chemicals, Penick Corp. and Phillip Brothers Chemicals.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1971, then received his officer commission as second lieutenant in 1983. He was stationed at the Weigel and Kilmer Reserve centers in Edison, Fort Totten in New York, Fort Dix and Fort Meade.

His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Global War on Terror Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Gold Hourglass and "M" Device and Army Service Ribbon.

Francis will be buried with full military honors at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, New Jersey.
